"Babe" Young seems destined to become one of the outstanding first basemen in the National League. Young, aggressive and fast, the former Fordham University athlete, has proved his merit after two reasons with the New York Giants. In his first complete season, last year, he batted only .286, but his 159 hits sent 101 runs scampering across the plate. Young's base hits included 17 home runs. He was close to the top in fielding with an Average of .992.

The "j" in his name might be silent, but Heston's bat resounds with power. The former number two overall draft pick reached the Majors after only 187 MiLB games, and promptly clocked a home run to break up a no-hitter in the sixth inning for his first knock.

Became a regular with St. Louis Cards in 1942 after sensational 1941 season with Columbus where he led League in games won, strikeouts and bases on balls and tied for most complete games. Stayed with Cards until 1944 when he entered service. Back with Cards for 1946 season, he had record of 15-6, for a .714 percentage, best in NL. Following season he won 13 and lost 16 and last year his record was 12-16. Traded to Pittsburgh Pirates in spring of 1949.
