When they want to praise a first-baseman," they say "He might be another Sisler." George Sisler was without a doubt one of the greatest players ever to hold down the initial sack. He was a picture fielder, making sensational, difficult plays look easy and, as a hitter, his lifetime average of .341 over 16 seasons talks for itself. There was nothing he couldn't do on a ball field. He won the American League batting crowns in 1920 and 1922 with averages of .407 and .420 respectively; he set a record for hits in a season with 257 in 1920 and batted safely in 41 consecutive games in 1922 for another league mark. Today, Sisler keeps his hand in baseball as Chairman of the National Semi-Pro Baseball Congress.

Toby, whose first name is Maurice, began the 1953 season with the Chicago Cubs. He appeared in 24 games for them. The Pirates acquired him and he broke into the Pittsburgh line-up 53 times. For the total of 77 major league games in which he appeared, Toby hit .239, driving in 25 runs on his 51 hits. The preceding season with the Cubs he was in 107 games and batted a nice .290. He had 31 RBI's then. He was with Montreal in 1951.
