At the age of 19 entered professional ball with the Paris team in the East Texas League. He was grabbed by the Boston Red Sox in 1926 and remained with that club until he was traded to the Cleveland Indians in June, 1932. In December, he was transferred to Washington in another deal. John Peacock, who was a star quarterback for the University of North Carolina before adopting a professional baseball career in 1933, was half of the Boston Red Sox catching staff last year. He shared the backstopping burden with "Gene" Desautels and once again proved himself a steady player. He hit only .277, below his .303 of 1938, but drove in 36 runs and scored 33. He joined the Sox as a free agent in 1937, and was optioned and recalled from Minneapolis that same year.
