The slender righthander led the Texas League with an earned run average of 2.18 in 1965. Promoted to Tacoma, Chuck was again under the 3.00 mark in E.R.A. despite being handicapped by arm trouble. With two years of impressive pitching behind him, the righty was elevated to the Cubs roster in '67. Chuck's stuff quickly won him an important position in Leo Durocher's bullpen. In the 45 games that he appeared in, Chuck won nine and was credited with eight "saves."
A giant of a man at 6-5 and more than 230 pounds, Choi's strength will have him trotting around the Wrigley Field bases in years to come. He hits with power to all fields, having socked at least 10 home runs for four consecutive years while climbing through the minor leagues. Choi also moves surprisingly well for a towering first baseman.
Jim came to the Yankees from the Phillies in 1954. For N. Y. he had a 1-1 record for 9 mound appearances. He appeared in 33 games for the Phillies winning 2 and losing 3. A fine pitcher, Jim was named the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1950. That year his 74 appearances and his 16-7 record as a top notch fireman were vital factors in the Phillies drive to the pennant. He's been in baseball since 1941.
