MY BIGGEST THRILL IN BASEBALL by Jack Dittmer. To date my biggest thrill while playing baseball was my first major league home run. I hit it while playing in Boston, against the New York Giants. It came with a man on base in the last of the seventh inning, and won the ball game 2-1. Being a left handed batter, I got even a bigger thrill out of it, because I hit it off Monte Kennedy, a left hand thrower.
Daryl began the 1953 season with the Giants as a rookie hopeful. However, he suffered a severe injury when he was hit in the cheek with a batted ball. His cheekbone was broken and he was out of action for a while. However, when he returned he was not at all "gunshy" as some feared. He's big, young, fast, has a good arm and hits the long ball. Carl Hubbell scouted him for the Giants.
Slugging Pittsburgh Pirate outfielder. He led the majors in 1950 with 47 homers for the fourth straight time.
