Released to the minors several years ago. He slugged .353 in 138 games for Milwaukee in the American Association and the Cincinnati Reds grabbed him. This was in 1931. Has been with the Reds since. Manion was born in St. Louis, in 1897 and began his professional ball playing with Topeka in the Western League at the age of 21. 2 years later he got his first chance in the major league, when he was signed by Detroit. Is 5 ft. 11 in. and moves the scales at 175 lbs. Bats and throws right-handed.
Got start in pro ball in 1938 with Danville. Entered Navy in 1942. Returned to baseball in 1946 with the Red Sox. With them through 1947. Then joined the Browns for 1948 and 1949. With Baltimore, International League, in 1950. In 130 games, hitting .282 and driving in 64 runs. Now Eddie is back in the majors, and is providing valuable infield insurance for the National League champions.
Cloyd is one of the many bright young pitchers on the Cardinals' staff. He appeared in a total of 23 games in 1952, winning 6 and losing 6. He began in baseball in 1945 with Lynchburg. He first hit the majors with the Cards at the end of the 1949 season. He was with them in 1950, with a 7-7 record, and he spent the early part of 1951 with Columbus then went back to St. Louis.
