Most of Jimmy's long and successful playing career was spent in his home city with the Athletics. He began pro ball in 1917, and was with the A's, 1918-1932. Finished playing days with the White Sox. Named Chisox manager in 1934. Held that post until August 1946. Managed Hollywood, Pacific Coast League, during part of 1946 and in 1947 and 1948. Now piloting his old team, the A's.

Chuck was brought up to the Houston Club for the last month of the 1965 season. On Sept. 26, he cracked a three-run homer against the Cincinnati Reds and virtually knocked them out of the pennant race. The powerfully built ex-football star from Texas Tech started the 1966 campaign in the minors but was quickly recalled after a fine showing. Although only with the Houston Club part of the season, Chuck was among the club leaders in doubles, home runs and runs batted in. Watch for him in '67.
