Joe ran into tough pitching luck in 1950. The righthander from Massachusetts was in 15 games, losing 5, and not winning any. In 1949 his record was 13-14. In 1948 it was 14-13. Joe entered baseball in 1941. He joined the Athletics at the end of the 1942 season. Spent the next 3 years in the service. Played for Toronto in 1946, but rejoined the Philadelphia club at end of the season.
The Braves got Hal via the draft from the Red Sox chain. First signed by California, then went to Astros. Led Carolina League in Homers, 1967 and was named to TOPPS Class A All-Eastern team. Caught 24 inning game at Houston, 4-15-68, tying a record.
DJ has earned his nickname "Machine." Trailing only Joe DiMaggio, the two-time batting champ became (on May 7, 2021) the second-fastest player to collect his first 300 hits in pinstripes - 225 games to 200.
