One of the few players in the big league of Indian descent. His mother being a descendant of the Cherokee tribe, while his father is a Swede. Used to be a pitcher, but changed to outfielding, so he could hit more often. Played with Detroit three years and traded to Boston last season. Batted .281 in 143 games. Hits left-handed, but throws right-handed. Is 29, five feet, nine inches tall and weighs 175 pounds. Came to big league from Pacific Coast League, where he swatted .360 in 170 games.



Shane was a different pitcher (less velo, more sliders) in 2022 than in his AL Cy Young Award effort of two years earlier, but was still highly effective. He allowed three or fewer runs in 13 of his first 14 starts and ranked among the AL S0% leaders.



Had a 9 and 8 record in 33 games for the Chicago White Sox in 1951. Worked 142 innings, struck out 45 batters, gave up 34 bases on balls. Recorded an earned run average of 4.31. Entered baseball with Connie Mack's A's in 1936. Now with the Red Sox.
