The 1916 Sporting News M101-4 and M-101-5 sets were released only a few years after the famed tobacco card sets produced by the American Tobacco Company.
Ted Williams, one of the youngest players in baseball, has a great future according to experts. Ted hits one of the longest and hardest balls in the major leagues today. Williams was brought up last year from San Diego, and farmed out by the Boston Red Sox, who recalled him this year. In 1937, his first full year with San Diego, Ted drove in 98 runs, 25 of which were home runs.
"Big Coop" has been with 4 N.L. teams in 12 seasons in the majors. He's averaged 300 in 16 World Series games and .333 in 6 All-Star games. Walker and his brother Mort formed one of the greatest brother battery combinations for the Cardinals. His best years at the plate were '43 (.318), '44 (.317), '47 (.305), '50 (.313) and '51 (.313). In '47, "Big Coop" drove in 122 runs and hit 35 Homers for the Giants. He's hit 7 grand-slammers. Walker's a Navy Veteran.
