Edward Konetchy, first baseman of the Pittsburgh Federal League Club, was born in March, 1886, at La Crosse, Wis. In 1905 he began professional play with his home town team in the Wisconsin State League. He was sold to St. Louis Nationals on June 29, 1905. He remained with that team until the fall of 1913, when he was traded to the Pittsburgh Nationals in a big player swap. He signed with Pittsburgh Federals in fall of 1914.
Alex is a highly regarded young player. 1954 was his rookie year in the majors, and he appeared in 142 games for the Cardinals, hitting .264. He had 106 hits, including 17 doubles, 4 triples and 2 homers. He drove in 29 runs and scored 57. Began in baseball in 1949 with Muskegon in the Central League. In 1953, with Kansas City, he hit .307 and led the American Association in putouts and assists.
