Samuel Earl Crawford, outfielder of the Detroit American League team, was born in Wahoo, Neb., Aug. 20, 1880. In 1898 he played his first ball game with the Chatham (Ont.) team. In 1899 he joined the Columbus Western League team, being shifted later to Grand Rapids in the same league. In 1900 he was turned over to the Cincinnati Reds. After three years with the Reds he jumped the team and joined the Tigers. He has worn a Detroit uniform ever since.
Jim had the best ERA on the Yankee staff last year, and was 2nd in the league with 6 shutouts. His top game was against Boston when he pitched 8 hitless innings, before yielding 2 singles in the 9th.
