An arm ailment sidelined the White Sox ace for most of last year.



Ed came to the Yanks from the A's during the winter. Last year was the 3rd straight time he Batted In over 100 Runs. He had 117 and 104 in 1951-52. In 1950-51-52, Ed led A.L. 1st Basemen in Putouts and those same years, he hit 21, 29 and 22 Homers. In pro ball since 1939, he came up with the Indians in '46, and also played for Washington and Chicago.



Hoyt had a sensational rookie season in '52. He was the main reason, the Giants stayed in pennant contention. He appeared in 71 games... only 3 less than the all-time record/ Knuckleballing Hoyt had the best Winning Percentage in the National League and led the League's pitchers in '52 in ERA. He had records of 21-8 in '46 and 20-7 in '47, his first two seasons in organized ball.
