Remembered as a bit of a shy rookie, Marquez emerged as a dominating ace in Mile High country. The fastest player to 700 strikeouts in Colorado history, he became an All-Star in 2021, his sixth season. "We all feel like proud papas," manager Bud Black said. "It's such a good feeling to see German rewarded."



Nolan Gorman, Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt and Willson Contreras all posted 20-homer seasons for the 2023 Cardinals, whose average position-player age (27.4 years) was the team's lowest since 1983. Promising youngsters Jordan Walker and Masyn Winn took their first big-league cuts, while Miles Mikolas led the pitching staff with nine wins.



Joined the Athletics in 1942 for his first experi- ence in OB. He only got in 8 games and had a 0-1 record. Next three years were spent in service. He came back to the A's and had records of 3-15 and 8-10 for the next two seasons. Last year his record was 5-1. Traded to the St. Louis Browns for 1949.
