Johnny gained national fame in '52 as a Basketball Star at the University of Seattle where he was the nation's leading scorer and broke all existing Scoring Records. Signed for a king-size bonus by Pittsburgh, his great speed and reflexes helped him become a top infielder. Johnny is now in the Service and the Pirates will be glad to see him when he's discharged.
Jim made the most appearances on the mound of any pitcher in the National League in 1954, when he got into 60 games for the Dodgers, strictly as a relief man, and a good one. He won 8 games and lost 4, and he worked 87 innings, giving up 76 hits. He walked 44 men and struck out 58 and his earned run average was 3.21. Began in organized ball in 1946 and first came to the majors at the end of the 1952 season, after pitching for the Dodgers' Montreal team.
In Fred's first season in OB, 1938 with Seattle of Pacific Coast League, he led league in games won and percentage with 25 and .781. Also led IL in games won in 1941 with 26. He had been with Tigers in 1939 and 1940 and was on their roster from 1942 through 1945 while in service. Returned in 1946 and his records have been 14-11, 18-10 and 13-11.
