Started in majors with Braves in 1939. Spent 1939 to 1942 between Boston and Newark. Was sold to Yankees in 1942, but joined service before playing. Split 1946 with New York and A's. Next season he set a major league record for fielding by third basemen with .988. In 1948 he hit .310 for A's in 148 games and led AL third basemen again in fielding.



Speedy Wayne stole 13 bases for the Cubs in 1950. His fielding percentage was .967. Hit .242 in 133 games. Signed by the Cubs after starring at short at Western Michigan University. Began the 1949 campaign with their Los Angeles farm team. Rated as one of the best defensive second basemen in the Pacific Coast. League. In 155 games for LA, batting .278. Brought up to Cubs near end of season.



In 1967, Rick tore apart Pacific Coast League pitching and ran-off with the Circuit's Most Valuable Player Award.
