Hal is a good fielder, with a steady throwing arm. He was in 102 games for the Cubs in 1952, batting .219. He had 65 hits and drove in 30 runs, a good percentage. Began in baseball in 1946, spending the season with Nashville and Shelby. Hit .346 for Nashville the next year, and then joined the Cubs in 1948. Led the Southern Association in hits with 218 in 1947.

Most of the era's top stars are represented in the 1911 Turkey Red baseball card set, including a plethora of Hall of Famers: Mordecai Brown (#1), Ty Cobb (#9), Nap Lajoie (#23), Tris Speaker (#36), Cy Young (#42), Frank “Home Run” Baker (#78) and Walter Johnson (#99).

Boston's Red Sox made a good buy when they brought Joe Heving back to the majors two years ago. Heving, who had been in and out of the majors since 1930, won 11 and dropped but three for the Red Sox last year, appearing in 46 games. His showings were mainly in relief roles, as he started only five games. His record shows a better than .500 average against every club in the League except the Yankees, against whom he shows neither losses nor wins. Heving originally started in big league ball with the Giants.
