Fleet-footed Richie was one of the outstanding rookies in baseball last year. He appeared in 117 games for the Phillies and wound up the season hitting .333, the second highest average in the National League. He batted in 40 runs, and led the league in stolen bases with 32. Early in the season he had a 23 game hitting streak.



Started 1951 season with the Cubs, but sent to Los Angeles after 49 games for Chicago. In 70 games on the Coast. Batted .271 for the Baby Bruins and .376 for Los Angeles. Began in baseball with Santa Barbara in 1946. Acquired by Cubs from Dodgers' organization, Oct., '50.



Gus is one of baseball's best long ball hitters. He was in 153 games for the Redlegs in 1954 and he batted a good .299. His 185 hits were good for a total of 288 bases, and they included 17 home runs. He batted in 101 runs. 1947 was his first year in organized ball and he came to the majors in 1950 with the Pirates, after starting the year with Indianapolis. He was traded to the Redlegs in October, 1952.
