The one-time rookie sensation of the New York Yankees, Roland found himself pitching for the Athletics in mid-'65. The righthander was named top rookie in the Yanks' spring training camp after winning 15 out of 16 decisions at Auburn in 1960. During the off-season, Roland is a physical education instructor.
While starting as a Catcher at Huntington (W.Va.) in '38, Mike soon began to play Third Base and Shortstop as well. He went up to the Boston Braves in '42, then moved to the Dodgers and started the '45 season as their shortstop! Catching for Brooklyn Farm Teams, he moved to Hollywood in '49 returning to the Majors with the Pirates in '53.
Leading AL third-basemen in 1950 with 45 double plays and 205 putouts, was the Washington Nationals vet.
