Started 1950 with Louisville of the American Association. Called up by the Red Sox after compiling a record of 11 and 2, with an earned run average of 2.69. In 22 games for the major leaguers, winning 8, while losing 6. First attracted attention when pitching semi-pro, and for Auburn Institute. With Scranton in 1948. Won 11, lost 5. Had a 2.52 E.R.A. With Birmingham, 1949.



While playing semi-pro ball for $5 a game in 1919, Bottomley was Invited to St. Louis camp after a police officer saw him play and recommended him to general manager Branch Rickey. Signed shority thereafter, the first baseman went on to enjoy a Hall of Fame career, winning two World Series and the MVP in 1928.



Started his career in baseball in 1934. Reached Newark in 1937 to play 7 games and to then join the Yankees where he has been ever since, except his service in the Coast Guard. He has batted as high as .320. Last season he averaged .287 and led the league in triples (13). He has played in three World Series. He's quite a piano player and sings pretty well, too.
