Although only 23 years old and a veteran of but three major league campaigns, he has the distinction of being oldest of Pirates in continuous service. Was ten-letter man at Purdue University. Pitched no-hit game for Waco in 1950, his first and only minor league season. Fine fast ball his chief asset.

Voted Rookie of the Year at end of 1949 campaign. That season Roy appeared in 140 games, batting .306. He had 28 doubles, 16 homers, and drove in 91 runs. But in 1950 he became a victim of that old sophomore slump. Hit .238 in 113 games. Batted in 57 runs. Roy played Legion ball in St. Louis. Also played while in Army. First year in organized ball was in 1947 with Hannibal, Mo.
