By slamming four home runs against the Braves, Aug. 31, 1950, Gil hung up a modern NL record. He added a single to the parade, and the 17 total bases set a new mark for the majors. By taking part in 153 double plays in 1950, Gil achieved a new first baseman's fielding record. He drove in 113 runs on a .283 batting average. Gil was a catcher until giving first base a fling in 1948.



With a lifetime batting average of .308 and a tremendous slugging average, Johnny swings one of heaviest bats in NL. For second consecutive year Johnny and Ralph Kiner tied for lead in NL home run department. It was also third time he had hit forty or more home runs, a new NL record. Only National Leaguer who has four times hit three home runs in one game.



Considered one of the finest fielding 3rd basemen, Aurelio played baseball in high school. Was 4th in his loop in Homers, 1965, while in 1966 he led in Triples and in DP's, Assists & Putouts by 3rd sackers.
