In 28 games for the Pirates in 1951 with a 6 and 9 record. An outstanding athlete in high school. Graduated with 13 letters. Broke into organized baseball with Santa Rosa in 1948. Called up by the Pirates from New Orleans during 1950. Now in military service.

Joe broke his '52 World Series Jinx in '53 with a Homer against Brooklyn in the first game. Coming to the Yanks in '49 after hitting .319 and belting 20 homers for Kansas City, Joe shifted between the outfield and 1st Base until '52. In '51 he hit .286 and in '52 he poled 18 homers while batting .280. Joe has been in pro ball since 1939.

One of the few Chicago players able to hit Yankee pitching in the 1938 World Series was Joe Marty. Marty came to bat 12 times in that Series and collected 6 hits for a batting mark of .500. One of those hits was a homer, another a double, and he drove in 5 runs. Marty has not yet hit the heights expected of him. in the majors, but he has shown flashes of greatness, especially in that Series, and this is only his fourth major league season. The Cubs traded him to the Phils in May of last year, and he should prove a valuable asset to them. Despite a low batting mark last year, Marty drove in 54 runs.
