One of the few Chicago players able to hit Yankee pitching in the 1938 World Series was Joe Marty. Marty came to bat 12 times in that Series and collected 6 hits for a batting mark of .500. One of those hits was a homer, another a double, and he drove in 5 runs. Marty has not yet hit the heights expected of him. in the majors, but he has shown flashes of greatness, especially in that Series, and this is only his fourth major league season. The Cubs traded him to the Phils in May of last year, and he should prove a valuable asset to them. Despite a low batting mark last year, Marty drove in 54 runs.
