Name that player!

"One of the new members of the Washington Senators is John Thomas Stone, who has been. playing the outfield with the Detroit Tigers for the past 5 years. Stone hails from Mulberry, Tenn., where he was born in 1906. He was grabbed by the Tigers in 1928 after leaving Marysville College. He was farmed out to Evansville, Ill., but recalled at the end of the season. He is a left-handed batter, although he throws right-handed. Last year with Detroit, Stone batted .280. He is a six-footer, tipping the scales at 180 pounds."

Running - Young players should be careful when using spiked shoes for the first time to get short cleats, not to finely sharpened. Danger of long spikes for inexperienced players is that they are apt to catch in the ground and cause the ankles to turn. Such players must take especial care when sliding with new spikes. Above all do not change your mind after starting your slide and attempt to come back to an upright position. Go through, once you begin your slide. Even major league players suffer painful injuries by failing to observe this policy. Take your cue from "Pepper" Martin of the St.Louis Cardinals.

The flashy Dodger outfielder won two successive batting crowns in the minors, including a scalding .365 average at Reno. Willie, one of game's swifts, ranks high among defensive performers too.
