Vic was one of the most sought-after players in the minors several years ago. The Philadelphia A's obtained him after he led the American Association with a .349 mark at Kansas City in 1953.
Merrill May, a graduate of Indiana University, was drafted by the Philadelphia Phils from the Newark Bears in 1938. While with Newark he had a batting average of .331, driving in 108 runs for the Bears, and he was one of the chief reasons why Newark won the International League race. Merrill May finished third in batting for the International League, and accounted for 12 home runs. Merrill May has been playing very good ball this season for the Phils and experts predict a very brilliant major-league career for him.
The tall righthander, a top pitcher for the White Sox for 6 years, was traded to Cleveland last fall. Dick won 16 games in 1957 and had a sparkling E.R.A. of 2.77. Last season the southpaw pitched much better than his 10-10 record reveals.
