John Tortes Meyers, catcher of the New York National League team, is a Mission Indian, and was born in Riverside, Cal., July 29, 1882. His first baseball experience was gained in 1906, as a member of the Harrisburg baseball team in the Tri-State League. He played with Butte in 1907, and was sold to St. Paul in 1908. The Giants purchased him from St. Paul for $6,000, and he reported in the fall of 1909.



After a quick start at Toronto in the International League last year, Pete suffered a sore arm and was shelved for most of the 1965 campaign. The 23-year-old righthander was signed on the campus of Baylor University after starring on the mound in his sophomore year. While attending his high school, Pete was named the league's Most Valuable Player in a poll taken of Tennessee coaches.



"Hallahan is one of the best southpaw pitchers in the National League, and is spending his sixth season with the St. Louis Cardinals. Last season he won 16 games and lost 13 for a club which finished fifth. He has led three different leagues in striking out batters, International with 195 strikeouts in 1927; Texas, with 244 in 1928, and National League in 1930 and 1931 with 177 and 159. Bill is five feet, 10 1/2 inches tall, and weighs 180 pounds. Bats right-handed. Was born in Binghamton, N. Y. in 1904, and started professional career with Syracuse in 1924."
