Name that player!

With a runner on first base, the baseman should stand just in front of the bag until the ball is pitched. As the pitcher throws, the first baseman will dash ten or fifteen feet off his bag to be in position for any hit that comes down his way. In taking throws from his pitcher to catch a runner off the base, the first sacker should put himself in perfect tagging position as the throw comes, so that he can make a sweeping tag in a single motion. A skillful man like Hank Greenberg of the Tigers, has mastered the trick of keeping his feet and legs out of range of the runner's spikes and using his long arms and height to make the tag.

In '52 Billy equatted his previous high of 15 wins in a season, which he accomplished in '51. His Earned Run Average in '52 was topped by only 8 pitchers in the AL. Bill's career started at Buffalo in '45. That same year he was given a trial with the Tigers but was sent back to the Bisons for more years. With the Tigers again in '48, Bill had a 3-0 record. He went to the White Sox in '49 and had records 67-15, 12-16 and 15-14 from '49 through '51.

CAREER APPRAISAL: Over 18 seasons, and with no sign of decline, Jeter has inserted himself into the Yankees pantheon of stars. Career hit No. 3,500 is within reach in 2013, even as he approaches slightly longer-term milestones of 2,000 runs and 300 homers.
