John Daubert, infielder, was born in Llewellyn, Pa., May 14, 1885. He began his career as a professional ball player in 1907, with the Kent team of the Interstate League. In 1908 he was drafted by Cleve- land and turned over to Nashville, only to be recalled a short time later and sold to Toledo, which in turn sold him to Memphis. He was purchased by Brooklyn in 1910.
Richie laced a 102-mph single for his first MLB hit in his first at-bat. He topped it in his second when he doubled as his parents were being interviewed on TV. His advanced approach was demonstrated at NCAA Towson when he walked 52 times in 55 games, with just 16 Ks.
Herm's fast ball helped him win 54 straight games in American Legion Ball. He signed with Cincy and pitched 8 years for the Redlegs. Traded to the Phils. He won 10 games both in '54 and '55.
