Irishman. Began umpiring with North Carolina State League in 1940, with Michigan State League in 1941, and a year with the American Association before going into the military service 1943-1945. Returned to the American Association in 1945 and was brought up immediately to the American League. World Series umpire 1950 and 1952 and All-Star game umpire in 1953.
Morgan made sure to lock up his spot in the Cleveland rotation with his excellent work down the stretch in 2021. The hurler allowed one run or fewer in three of his final five starts. Over that same stretch he held opponents to a .240 batting average and notched 20 strikeouts to go with a 3-1 record.
J. Frank Baker, third baseman of the Philadelphia American League team, was born in Trappe, Md., on March 13, 1886. His first professional engagement was with the Reading, Pa., Tri-State League team in 1908. He was secured by Philadelphia in the fall of 1908. He is now ranked with the best third basemen in the league. Baker is a left-handed batter and thrower.
