Bill joined the Orioles last season right from the Clemson College campus. Receiving $15,000 to sign a Baltimore contract, he became the Orioles' first "bonus baby." Although now in Service, Bill will add plenty of mound strength to Baltimore when he returns. In 3 years at college, he had a 19-8 record demonstrating a blazing fast ball and excellent control.

Dale comes up to the Majors again this year determined to make the grade. Once before, in '51 he played briefly for the Bucs and Cards but was sent to the Minors for more seasoning. Starting in Baseball back in '44, Dale hit .330 at Ogden in '46 and .311 at Oneonta in '47. A long ball hitter, he belted 33 HR's at New Orleans in '52 and 35 for Hollywood in '53.

Cliff Melton is one of the few men who have won 20 or more games his first season in the major leagues; he turned in 20 wins against only 9 defeats with the New York Giants in 1937. Cliff had his start in baseball with the Asheville Club in 1931, moving on to Baltimore the following year and playing with them until 1936. At the end of the 1936 season, Melton was purchased by the New York Giants and has been one of their starting pitchers ever since. In two years of major league pitching, Cliff has struck out 243 batters in 491 innings, taking part in 82 games, winning 34 of them and losing only 23.
