In 1952 he won 20 games for the first time in his career.

The best-fielding shortstop in the American League in 1951, Chico set a new Record, handling 297 chances without an error. He was also one of the two shortstops in the League to take part in a Triple Play. A native of Venezuela, he broke into organized ball with Fort Worth in 1949, hitting .315. The White Sox bought him in '50. In his first full year in the majors, he hit .282, batting .362 in night ball. Chico is related to Alex Carrasquel, a former Big Leaguer.
