Teammates call Sheldon."Available" because he's always willing and able to pitch when he's needed. 1941 was his first year in organized ball. He played in the minors until he went into the Army Air Force for 3 years in 1943. The Giants called him up in 1946 after he won 19 and struck out 232 at Jacksonville that year. At Jersey City in '47 he had a 13-3 record when the Giants recalled him. He won 16 in '48, 15 in '49, 13 in '50.



Involved in the longest game of the year last season, Wade was the winner of the 24-inning marathon against the Mets. He picked up the 1-0 triumph in relief.
