His graceful play at 2nd has won him his nickname. Coming up the hard way and a long way, Emil has played for eight years in the minors and with eight different teams. His second year in the majors found him leading the league's 2nd basemen in fielding. After starting the 1946 season with the Cards, he was traded to the Phillies May 1st. Last year his batting average was .285.
Wayne had a truly impressive war record, having served with the Fightin' Marines at Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. A terrific hustler, he's known as "Twig". The Cubs brought Wayne up in 1949 after he had played 115 games for Los Angeles and hit .278. As a regular in 1950, he hit only .242 but banged out 10 homers. In 1951, he was traded to the Dodgers. During the off-season, he attends Western Michigan College.
