Don, traded to the Giants by the Braves last winter, had the 9th best ERA among N.L. Pitchers in '53. The little curve-baller pitched a 2-hitter and a 3-hitter in his rookie Major League season. Don came to the Braves after a 17-4 record and a 2.70 ERA with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1952. He won 11 and lost 2 at Pawtucket in '49 and was 14-6 at Hartford in 1951.



Whitey is one of the surest fielders in baseball, and he can hit the ball well in a clutch. He appeared in 148 games for the 1954 World Champions and he batted .251. Whitey had 143 hits for a total of 217 bases. These included 17 doubles, 3 triples and 16 home runs. He batted in 60 runs and scored 73. He began in organized ball in 1943 with Springfield, and after 40 games with them joined Jersey City, the Giants' top farm. He was with them through part of 1945, then came to the majors.



Signed to a $60,000 bonus contract by Padres out of University of Oregon last June, Dave made major league debut in 18-inning, second game of twi-nighter vs. Bucs, June 7th. Considered to be an advanced prospect, Dave averaged .410 in 37 college games in 1972, slugged 12 Homers, drove in 47 Runs and whiffed only 9 times in 144 At-Bats. In Dave's first 22 games with Padres, he hit .261, hit first pro Homer, broke up a no-hitter and had four Hits in one game.
