Earl Averill started playing ball at the age of 21, for the Seattle Club of the Pacific Coast League in 1924. He played with three other minor league clubs, Bellingham, Anaconda and San Francisco, before being purchased by the Cleveland Indians in 1928 for a reported price of $50,000. In ten years of baseball, Averill has failed to hit over the .300 mark only twice, his best average being .378 in 1936. Earl led the American League in hits in 1936 with 232 and drove in 126 runs. At the end of the 1938 season, Earl had a total of 1889 hits for his major league career and before the end of the present season will, no doubt, join the ranks of "Baseball Immortals" by getting over 2000 hits. His ten-year batting average for 1486 games played is .322.
A Dodger Coach since '52, Billy holds the N.L. record for Putouts at 2nd Base with 466 in 1933. During 17 years as a Big League Player, he hit over .300 eight times with marks of .327, .341, .334, .335 and .330 in 1931-35-36-37-43 with the Cubs and Dodgers. Billy managed the Pirates in 1947, Minneapolis in '48 and Richmond in '51.
Johnny is one of the best fielders in the league, and a dangerous hitter. He ap-peared in 125 games for the White Sox in 1954, hitting .275. He had 116 hits good for a total of 157 bases. These included 20 doubles and 7 homers, and he batted in 60 runs. Johnny began in baseball in 1946 with the Tigers, appearing in 4 games for them. He was with Williamsport the next year, appearing with the Tigers again at the end of the season. With Buffalo in 1948 he led the International League in runs, hits, doubles and triples.
