"Mel" Almada, the only Mexican player in the big leagues today, started his baseball career with the Seattle Club, of the Pacific Coast League, in 1932. In 1933 he played with the Boston Red Sox in 14 games, getting a batting average of 341. He was farmed out to Kansas City the following year, batted 328, and was recalled by Boston toward the end of the season. "Mel" Almada played with Boston until 1937, when he was traded to Washington along with the Ferrell brothers, for Ben Chapman, and Buck Newsom. On June 15th, 1938, Washington traded him to the St. Louis Browns for Sam West. His 6-year major-league average shows "Mel" with 650 hits in 565 games, for an average of .291.

Signed to a $60,000 bonus contract by Padres out of University of Oregon last June, Dave made major league debut in 18-inning, second game of twi-nighter vs. Bucs, June 7th. Considered to be an advanced prospect, Dave averaged .410 in 37 college games in 1972, slugged 12 Homers, drove in 47 Runs and whiffed only 9 times in 144 At-Bats. In Dave's first 22 games with Padres, he hit .261, hit first pro Homer, broke up a no-hitter and had four Hits in one game.

Some cards from the 1909 T206 Set have been hoarded by collectors (i.e. Shag Shaughnessy and John Titus), making their cards a little harder to find.
