By firing 2 no-hitters in '52 Virgil equalled a Major League record. He came to the Browns during '52 after putting in 10 seasons with the Tigers. In every season except '47, he won more than he lost. "Fire Trucks" had a 19-11 record and led the AL in Strikeouts in '49. Some of Virgil's better years at Detroit were '42 (14-8), '43 (16-10), '46 (14-9) '48 (14-13), and '51 (13-8). He came up to the AL after leading the IL with 204 Strikeouts at Buffalo in '41.

Bobby's value can't be measured by his batting average. At his best when it means the most, he played a big part in the Giants' successful Pennant drive last season, and became one of the League's top pinch-hitters. Bobby entered baseball in '44 with Springfield hitting .308, and after time out for Military Service, he moved steadily through the Giant Chain to make the grade in '52.

"Swish" ranks 2nd among active National Leaguers in Grand Slam Homers with 8. A Washington College (Md.) graduate, he led the League in Home Runs in 1943 (20) and 1944 (33) and also led in Runs Batted In with 128 and 122. Chosen on the Major League All-Star Team in '45, Bill started in pro ball in '36. He joined the Cubs in '39, hitting .295 in 58 games. His best batting marks were .297 in '40, .294 in '42 and .309 in '44. He was traded to the Phillies in October, 1948.
