The ever-hustling young infielder was acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers on November 29, 1966 from the New York Mets. As a Met, Ron led the N. Y. club in batting in 1963 and 1964. He was voted their Most Valuable Player both years. Ron was the first Met player to be voted a starting position in the annual All-Star classic.

William L. James, right-handed spit-ball pitcher of the Boston National League Club, was born in Placer County, Cal., March 12, 1892, and played his first professional ball with the Seattle Club, of the Northwestern League, in 1912. After one season of minor league ball, James was drafted by Boston, but did not prove much of a success for his first season, showing poor control. In 1914, however, he pitched wonderful ball in the championship race and in the world's series against the Athletics, being credited with two victories against the American League champions.

This is "Charley" Gelbert's tenth season as a major league ball player. Back in 1932, "Charley's" baseball career was considered over as a result of a bad hunting accident, but courage and the will to come back enabled him to regain a berth in the major leagues. Gelbert was headed for undisputed stardom with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he started his major league career in 1929. He was one of the league's leading shortstops, and a veteran of the World Series of 1930 and 1931, in which his average was an even .300. The accident forced him out for two seasons, but he returned to the Cards in 1935, was traded to the Cincinnati Reds the next year and went to the Senators after a brief sojourn in the minors. With the Senators last year, "Charley" played every infield position, except first, collected 48 hits in 68 games, drove in 29 runs and scored 36 himself.
