The 1916 Sporting News M101-4 and M-101-5 sets were released only a few years after the famed tobacco card sets produced by the American Tobacco Company.



Rudy signed with the Phils in '48 as a bonus player. After a 16-12 recorded at Buffalo and 11-2 for Toronto, he joined Cincy in '55. Rudy's fine sinker baffled N.L. hitters last season.



Almost immediately after Gil was signed by Dodgers he went into service for three years. Gil started his career in OB as a third baseman, and it wasn't until 1946 when he was with Dodgers' Newport News farm team that he became a catcher. He remained behind plate until last season when Dodgers switched him to first base. He played 134 games, hit .250 and batted in 70 runs.
