Chico is a crackerjack feider, and a dangerous man with a bat. Injuries reduced the number of times he appeared in the line-up in 1952 to exactly 100 games. As a rookie with the White Sox in 1950 Chico was in 141 games and hit .282. He broke existing record for most consecutive errorless chances at shortstop, accepting 297 without a miscue. The streak ran from May 27 to July 17, 1951.

Rogers Hornsby of the St. Louis Browns is supposed to have the ideal batting. stance, being perfectly free and relaxed. Tight muscles mean a cramped swing and loss of power in hitting the ball. Practice swinging before a mirror at home to see whether you are getting the easy freedom in stepping to meet the pitch while putting your legs, back and arms into the swing. Don't take your eye off the ball until it hits your bat. The only time that Hornsby was ever "beaned" was when he turned to talk to the catcher just as the ball was delivered. Watch the ball from the time the pitcher starts his arm motion.

The Orioles picked up Mike last December in the deal that sent Curt Blefary over to the Astros. A veteran of three National League ballclubs, the southpaw has come up with strong years in the senior circuit. In '66, he was 2nd to Sandy Koufax in the ERA race.
