Though he hadn't yet made his MLB debut, Juan made St. Louis' 2021 NL Wild Card game roster. He'd hit a personal best 22 home runs for Triple-A Memphis.



Edward S. Plank, pitcher of the St. Louis Federal League team, was born in Gettysburg, Pa., in 1875. He played his first baseball as a member of the Gettysburg College team. It was while playing on the college team that Connie Mack discovered him, and after a try-out was signed by the Athletics in 1901. Plank has been a factor in winning a number of championships for the Athletics. In fall of 1914 went to St. Louis Federals.



Hopped right from the University of California to the big league in 1923. Signed by the Cardinals, but sent to minors for experience. Won a big league berth in 1926. Right-hand batter and thrower, 32 years old. Just short of the six-foot mark in height and weighs 175 pounds. Born in Little Rock, Ark., but now lives in California. Traded to Cincinnati in 1931. Three times batted over 300 in big league. Last year hit .243 in 96 games, fielded .985 in outfield. He sells insurance during the Winter months.
