Started in OB with Philadelphia A's in 1936, appearing in 22 games. He spent part of 1937 and 1938 with A's, and spent rest of time, up to 1946 shuttling around minors. '43, '44 and '45 were spent in service. After his discharge he joined New York Yankees and won 15 and lost 4 over two seasons. Last season, with Yanks and then White Sox, his record was 3-6.
The scrappy little catcher was traded to the White Sox in the off season between 1954 and 1955. He was with the Baltimore Orioles in 1954, and appeared in 122 games for them. He batted .270 and he had 107 hits for a total of 143 bases. These included 18 doubles, 3 triples and 5 homers. He had 37 runs batted in and he scored 25. Began in baseball in 1947. He worked up through the Yankee chain, and first came to the majors with them at the end of the 1951 season, for 1 game. He was traded to the St. Louis Browns, for 1952. Hit .286 for 119 games that year.
Given a chance as a starter in 1967, Gerry put his best foot forward as he tossed a brilliant one-hitter against his ex-mates, the Mets. Last season, Gerry left the bullpen and again picked-up the injury-riddled Red's staff as he posted a career high of 12 wins.
