It had been a long time since baseball had seen a player of Griffey's magnitude. Combining the daring defensive exploits of Willie Mays, one of the sweetest left-handed strokes of all time and an infectious smile, the Hall of Famer took the league by storm to become one of its most popular players during the 1990s.
Batted .293 in 141 games for the 1951 Senators. Hit 7 homers, 9 triples, 30 doubles. Drove in 87 runs. In addition to timely hitting, did usual excellent job at first, leading the league in fielding. Recorded a mark of .994 for 137 games. Tied for league fielding lead in 1950.
