Started at Amundsen high in home town where he batted .457 in senior year. Smashed out .329 average with Los Angeles last season. Made pro debut with Des Moines and led circuit in homers. Had late season tryout with Cubs in 1947 and hit homer with bases loaded. Cubs won, 4-3.
Except for 3 years in the Service, Sid has been a mainstay on the Senator pitching staff since 1940. He came up to the Big Leagues after a brilliant 24 and 4 record with Sanford of the Florida State League in 1939. Sid won 17 games in his rookie season, pitching two 1-hit games. His best year since 1940 was in 1950 when he won 14 and lost 14. He hit the double figures in victories in 1941 with 13 wins and in 1942 with 10.
