Across one wonderful weekend in 1996, Jones flourished from a phenom into the talk of the bigs. On Thursday, Oct. 17, he helped Atlanta clinch the pennant with a homer in Game 7 of the league championship series against St. Louis. Three nights later, the teen delivered a pair of pokes and five RBI to top New York in the World Series opener.

Players and fans alike were happy to see Frank make a comeback with the Yankees in 1951. In 1947, his rookie year, "Spec" won 14 against 5 losses during the season, and then went on to win 2 World Series games. Plagued by arm trouble after '47, he had a 9-10 mark in '48 and was sent to Newark in the middle of '49. In '50, Frank pitched for Kansas City. A War Veteran, he started in pro ball in 1940. Pictured in a Yankee uniform, he was traded to the Senators in May, 1952.

"Turk" was catching and playing the outfield for a semi-pro team in '42 when the team's pitcher failed to show up for a game. Turk took over, struck out 17 men and has been a pitcher ever since. The Dodgers signed him in '42. He spent 1943-44-45 in the Infantry and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. The Cubs drafted him from Montreal in '50 after Turk had compiled a 13-9 record in 29 games.
