Billy was slated to be the regular Sox first baseman in 1950, but he wound up as a regular outfielder, and the batting champion of the American League. Hit .354 for 110 games, and drove in 68 runs. An injury took him off first base early in the season, causing the Sox to call up Walt Dropo to guard the initial sack. Later Billy went to the outfield, and was the sensation of the League.

Bill joined the Browns' coaching staff in '52 after 6 years as a manager in the Minors. During those years, Bill's teams won 2 pennants. His playing career stretched from 1929 through 1948... all of which was in the Minors except for brief trials with the White Sox in 1931 and '32. Bill hit .300 or better 12 times... his top mark was a League Leading .366 at Muskogee in '31. He led the A.A. with 24 HR's in '42 at Milwaukee.

Madison oozes consistency. In 2013, he became the sixth pitcher in Giants history to deliver three seasons with at least 12 wins and 185 strikeouts. He's made at least 30 starts every year since 2011, has thrown 15 scoreless innings in World Series competition and, in '13, added an MLB All-Star Game selection to his resume.
