Jack Wilson started playing ball as an infielder for the Hollywood Club in 1930, playing the next year with San Francisco. In 1932 he joined the Portland Club as a pitcher and the first year won the only game he pitched. He pitched for Portland until 1934 when he was acquired by the Philadelphia Athletics, who in turn sent him to Syracuse in 1935. The same year he joined the Red Sox as a relief hurler. In 1937 he was a regular pitcher, pitching in 51 games, winning 16 games and losing 10. Last year pitching 37 games, Wilson won 15 games, losing 15. His 5-year major-league record shows 625 innings pitched with 328 strikeouts, 40 games won to 38 lost.
Eddie Miller, playing in the American Association in 1938, was regarded as the outstanding shortstop for that league. He is an excellent fielder and a damaging hitter, driving in 80 runs in Kansas City last year. Baseball experts predict that Eddie Miller will be one of the mainstays of the Boston Bees' infield for many years to come.
This is Bob's 13th year in the majors and his 19th year in organized baseball. He came up to the Browns in 1940 from San Antonio and in '42 was traded to the A's. After the '43 season, Bob was traded to the Tigers. In 1948, he led all American League Catchers in Fielding with .991. Never a lusty hitter, Bob's great value rests in his experienced handling of young pitchers. His best Big League batting marks were .259 in '41 and .255 in '44.
