Edward Frederick Yost nicknamed "Ed" was born in Brooklyn, home of the Dodgers, but has done all his major league playing for the Senators, starting in 1944. Tied with George Kell for A.L. record by playing 157 games at third base, 1952. Led American League third basemen in double plays, 1950; in '48 led A.L. in putouts (189) for 3rd basemen; repeated in 1951 (209), 1952 (212), and 1953 (190).



In his first big league game, Karl set a N.L. record by striking out 15 men. Karl's 12 S.O.s in his next start made a record total of 27 in 2 games. In the minors he was S.O. king 3 times and hurled 2 no-hitters.
