The young righthander is the most exciting young pitcher to ever wear a New York Met uniform. Tom was brought up to the Mets after just one year of minor league experience. At Jacksonville, he set a team record by striking out 14 batters in a game. Last season, he led New York in complete games, innings pitched, strikeouts and victories. Tom's 16 wins eclipsed the old Met mark of 13 held by Al Jackson. His 18 complete games was a new N. Y. Met record too. To close a superlative freshman season, Tom was named the Topps Rookie Pitcher of the Year for 1967.

After the Phillies saw Bob star in the National Amateur Tournament in Youngstown, Ohio, they signed him. In his 2nd year of pro ball (1949), the University of Detroit star won 19 at Terre Haute and was brought up to the Phils at the end of the season. In 1950, he had an 11-6 record. Bob spent the end of '51 at Wilmington, posting a 3-1 mark, and was recalled for 1952. An Army Veteran, his favorite foes are the Reds against whom he has a 5-1 lifetime record.
