Was signed by New York Giants and sent to minor league clubs when only 16 years old. This was back in 1916. Played on various minor league teams until 1919, when he joined the Boston Red Sox. Has been a big leaguer ever since. Traded to New York in 1921. Pitched in 6 world series for the Yankees and won all his games. Traded to Detroit in 1930. Since then has played with Athletics, Brooklyn and New York Giants, Signed by Pittsburgh last January. Hoyt is a right-hander, 5 feet, 11 inches, weighs around 190 pounds. He is now 33 years old.



One of the players in the big Dodgers-Cubs deal in 1951. Used mostly in relief, appearing in a total of 34 games for the season. Won 3. Lost 6. A rubber-armed pitcher, with a major-league record (up to 1952) of 62 wins and 45 losses. Likes hunting and fishing. Began in 1939.



One of the most aggressive managers and ball players in the major leagues, Joe Cronin has been an outstanding figure in baseball since he came up with Washington in 1928. A heavy, timely hitter, and a brilliant fielder, Cronin has been a shortstop standout in the American League, as well as one of its leading managers. He first became a manager at the end of the 1932 season, replacing Walter Johnson at the helm in Washington and the next year led the Senators to a pennant. At the end of the 1934 season, Cronin was traded to the Red Sox for $150,000 and one player, and took over the managership there that year. Cronin has been in every All-Star game but one, averaging .304 at bat. His lifetime major league mark is also .304. He has brought in 1135 runs, and collected 1871 hits, exclusive of this year.
